The Mogollon Rim, geologically, is the southern edge of the Colorado plateau. It is a forested area and a popular destination for the desert dwellers of the Phoenix area. Immediately south of the visitor's center the land drops rapidly down to the sonoran desert landscape of the Tonto National Forest. Temperatures on the Rim maybe 40 degrees cooler than the desert. The center is a small single room staffed by two rangers. Then provide information on the flora and fauna of the rim and available activities. They sell some clothing, water and snacks.
