The Phantom Canyon Road used to be a railroad for the Florence & Cripple Creek Railroad (F&CC). This sign is made of metal that is laser engraved with the historic information. The Phantom Canyon is also part of the Gold Belt tour.

Plaque reads:
A little over a century ago, the sights and
Sounds from this overlook were very
Different. Let your imagination take you on a
train ride through the Phantom Canyon. Listen!
Can you hear the freight train laden with
Gold ore clatter and screech along the steel
rails? Look! Is that a passenger train
Approaching with fortune seekers and tourists
Bound for Cripple Creek?

All Aboard the Florence
And Cripple Creek
Railroad!
In 1895, three F&CC trains daily
Traveled between the Cripple Creek
And Victor Mining District and the
Cities of Florence and Canon City.
First class coaches offered the
comfort and elegance of plush velvet
Cushions sand polished mahogany
paneling. A second class coach
sported more practical leather seats
and cherry and oak paneling. The
typical one-way fair - $2.75. For an
extra charge, the night train offered
Pullman sleeper cars - complete with
kerosene heaters, polished brass oil
lamps, and metal service.

A Sunday Ride on the F&CC
Excursion trains ran nearly every
Sunday through the Phantom Canyon in
the spring, summer and fall.
Residents at both ends of the line
enjoyed the F&CC excursions.
Arkansas Valley residents traveled
Up canyon to shop in Cripple Creek.
The spectacle of the mining district
was something to see! Residents of
the gold camps rode down canyon to
picnic among the orchards of the
Arkansas Valley. What a welcome
change from the industrial grime and
crowds of the mining district!
Whatever the reason for the trip,
$2.50 was the usual round-trip fare.
