[FR] Après la mort de José de San Martín, C’est à l’initiative de quelques compatriotes venus à Boulogne que l’idée d’un hommage prend racine. Après une récolte de fonds par souscription aussi bien à Paris qu’à Buenos Aires, la statue de 8,70 mètres de haut est réalisée en 9 mois par le sculpteur Henri Allouard.
Réalisée en bronze sur un piédestal en pierre, elle représente le Libertador portant un drapeau sur un cheval au trot.
Des bas-relief en bronze sont mis face droite, sous le bas-relief : PASSAGE DES ANDES ; face postérieure : CE MONUMENT / A ETE ERIGE PAR INITIATIVE / PRIVEE / AVEC LE CONCOURS / DU GOUVERNEMENT NATIONAL / DE LA REPUBLIQUE ARGENTINE / DU CONSEIL MUNICIPAL DE LA / VILLE DE BUENOS-AIRES ET / D’UNE SOUSCRIPTION PUBLIQUE et face gauche, sous le bas-relief : SAN MARTIN REFUSE LE POUVOIR.
[EN] After the death of José de San Martín, it is at the initiative of some compatriots who came to Boulogne that the idea of a tribute takes root. After a fundraising by subscription in Paris as well as in Buenos Aires, the statue of 8.70 meters high is realized in 9 months by the sculptor Henri Allouard.
Made in bronze on a stone pedestal, it represents the Libertador carrying a flag on a trotting horse.
Bronze bas-reliefs are placed on the right side, under the bas-relief: PASSAGE OF THE ANDES; posterior: THIS MONUMENT / HAS BEEN ENGAGED BY INITIATIVE / PRIVATE / WITH THE COMPETITION / OF THE NATIONAL GOVERNMENT / ARGENTINA REPUBLIC / MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE / CITY OF BUENOS-AIRES AND / A PUBLIC SUBSCRIPTION and left front, under the bas-relief: SAN MARTIN REFUSES THE POWER.
