Arthur Joseph Rooney, a son of Irish parents, paid $2500 to found a football team in the city of Pittsburgh in 1933. And the rest, as they say, is history. His Steelers, who began life being called the Pirates after the already existing baseball team in Pittsburgh, have gone on to win six Super Bowls and have countless numbers of super athletic alumni.
Next to the stadium, one can find a huge statue in Art Rooney's honor. He is holding his trademark cigar and has plenty of room for you to pose beside him.
