This two-story frame farmhouse is located on the southwest corner of the intersection of W. 9th Avenue and S. Gray. The houses which have grown up around it were built in the 1940's to 1970's. The home was built for Hays and Margaret Hamilton in 1904. It was later occupied by other family members until 2013. The Hamilton's son-in-law Dr. Frank Baker Cross was head of Horticulture at Okla. State University and this property once had beautiful gardens surrounding it, which although overgrown, can still be identified. The house is set back from the roads with large trees and photos were difficult to obtain.
The home is in the Colonial Revival style, and because of the gambrel roof, it is considered Dutch Colonial. An overhanging eave encircles the home, with a small gable porch roof above the centered front entrance on the north side. There is a wide shed-roof dormer across the front in the gambrel roof which contains three small 6/6 windows flanked by two larger windows. Windows on the ground floor are 1/1 double hung. The basement is constructed of brick. A garage at the rear constructed in the 1940's is not in good condition and is not a contributing item.
This property was placed on the National Register in 2014. There is a strong interest among some citizens of Stillwater to restore this historic farmhouse.
