The Fayette Historic Town is located on the Garden Peninsula at Snail Shell Harbor in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The furnaces made charcoal pig iron. Fayette was one of the Upper Peninsula's most productive iron smelting operations, producing 229,288 tons of iron from its opening in 1867 to its closing in 1891. They used local hardwood for fuel and nearby limestone to purify the iron.
There is an admission fee to enter the State Park.
