The Reading Hospital began its life in 1868 as a small dispensary with a couple of doctors and no nurses and today, it has grown to include 1000 physicians in 63 locations in Berks County. By 1929, the hospital had outgrown its original home and they moved to a 36 acre site in West Reading. As one approached the hospital, they could identify it by the tall clock tower standing high above the buildings. Today, the cupola on that tower shines brightly golden and most of the tower itself was painstakingly restored in 2008. Boards were replaced exactly as they had been originally built but the clock remained the same although it was freshened up.
The clock uses Roman Numerals on its white clock face with a minute and an hour hand.
The story of the restoration can be found at this link. (
