From the Facebook page for Berks Community Murals:
The Cherry Street Mural Corridor is a collection of public art created over the past 5 years. During this time, individual artists and hundreds of community volunteers have worked together with property owners to create this unique outdoor gallery. The West Reading Community Revitalization Foundation has been the driving force for both the organizational and financial support of the Mural Corridor.
In 2018, the Corridor was recognized by the Pennsylvania Downtown Center as tops in Pennsylvania for Public Space Improvements
From the introduction to the artist, Juan Carlos Ruiz, on the Goggle Works page:
Juan Carlos Ruiz Jr is a professional artist born in Reading, Pennsylvania. His work consist of many avenues and genres of art. Focusing primarily in surrealism, Juan also works within other genres of art including: realism, fantasy and more. His professional experience includes murals, portraits, graphic design, Illustration, and more. He tends to be primarily inspired by surrealism; seeing it as a realm of art where he can use his technical ability and imagination to conceptualize and create thought-provoking imagery and ideals in his art that are both light and dark in subject matter. Ruiz’s influences include surrealism, hyper-realism, Renaissance art, comic book art, abstract-expressionism, impressionism, sci-fi, and fantasy. Within his surreal expression, his main intent in his artwork is to make the viewer feel.
From the Reading Eagle:
Surreal and dreamlike with symbolism of stars, butterflies and columns, Ruiz's mural is designed to leave it up to the viewer to interpret in his or her own way.
The three murals (this mural and two others which were recently installed) were funded through grants from the Berks Art Council, the Wyomissing Foundation, Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, the Greater Reading Young Professionals Community Engagement Fund of Berks County Community Foundation and Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful.
