"The Canal between Champagne and Burgundy formerly canal of the Marne to the Saone is a channel with the Freycinet jig share connecting the valleys of the Marne and the Saone. It is the extension until the Saone of the old "channel of Haute-Marne" that it integrated.
224,191 kilometers long, the canal between Champagne and Burgundy belongs to three regions, Champagne, Lorraine, a few kilometers, upstream of Saint-Dizier, and Burgundy. It has 114 locks (71 on the Marne side and 43 on the Saône side) and two underground tunnels, the 275-meter long Condes tunnel and the tunnel on the shared reach between Balesmes-sur-Marne and Noidant-Chatenoy. 4,820 km, which passes almost below the source of the Marne.
The canal is supplied with water by four tanks provided for this purpose: Lake Charmes, Lake Liez, Lake Mouche and Lake Vingeanne. Water intakes, on the Marne on one side and the Vingeanne on the other side, complete this system. It connects the towns of Vitry-le-François and Maxilly-sur-Saône."
