Since the Gallery opened in 1964, its permanent collection of Canadian art has grown to over 17,000 items, counting works of art, artifacts, and documents. The Robert Harris (1849-1919) Archives is a significant component of the Gallery collection and includes Harris’ sketches for the iconic Canadian history painting, The Fathers of Confederation.
