"The newest addition to the City of Biloxi has finally been unveiled tonight at the Maritime Seafood and Industry Museum. The iconic Golden Fisherman is back on the Coast and is turning heads.

The South Mississippi community swarmed Point Cadet eager to see the new and improved Golden Fisherman that has been long awaited to be brought back to Biloxi.

The statue now stands upon a six foot granite base adorned with plaques with 811 seafood industry family names as well as the names of all the kings and queens of the Biloxi Shrimp Festival and Blessing of the Fleet.

The original 1977 statue was damaged in Hurricane Katrina and later stolen from the area and found in Mobile, Alabama.

This new seven foot work of art was crafted in Italy and completed with an original fishing net. Michelle Peterson with Maritime and Seafood Industry Museum said, “It represents all of the families. Everyone who played a part. It’s paying tribute to those who really worked as hard as they could to make us the Seafood capital of the world. It’s actually truly beautiful because this statue was made in Parma, Italy and it came across the Atlantic and it basically made the same voyage that a lot of those families made.”
