The actual hydrometric station is located a short distance to the south-east of the disk. The disk is used for a reference point in locating the WSC station.

To find the disk, locate the Highway 3 bridge over the Elk River in Fernie (there are two bridges over the Elk River in Fernie; located the westernmost of the two). The mark is located on the abutment on the south-west corner of the bridge.
