Marker is located in the in Zwaanendael Park in downtown Lewes.
Cst Futcher was a 7-year veteran of the Lewes Police Department. He was in pursuit of a suspect vehicle when he was involved in a crash. He succumbed to his injuries 10 days later, on 13 August, 1939.
The marker, placed by the Futcher family and the Delaware Fraternal Order of Police, states:
Charles Wilson Futcher, Sr. was a Lewes Police department town officer and Sussex County Constable who died in the line of duty after ably serving for 10 years.
"He had been a faithful public servant, fearless and constant in
the performance of his duties." - The Delaware Pilot
His sudden death was a shock and a tremendous loss to his family,
friends and the Greater Lewes Communities of Delaware.
