At the end of Lambton Parade is a large car park for those that want to relax or play in Reids Reserve, or head on out to Reids Mistake. The brass plaque (on one side) of the sandstone boulder reads:
REIDS RESERVE
This plaque commemorates the European discovery
of Lake Macquarie near this spot
by Captain William Reid in July, 1800.
In celebration of the
City of Lake Macquarie Bicentenary in 2000.
Councillor 'John xxxxxxxx'
Mayor of Lake Macquarie and Chairman of the
Lake Macquarie Bicentenary Committee,
8 October, 2000
There is a nice EarthCache out at Reids Mistake, so take the time to make sure you get there at low tide! [It seems that some miscreant didn't want to have the name of the Councillor on the plaque, and that seems to have been chiseled off!]
