«Le blockhaus de Coteau-du-Lac est d’abord destiné à assurer le contrôle militaire du fleuve Saint-Laurent à la frontière du Haut et du Bas-Canada et à proximité des États-Unis.
La décision de construire le blockhaus est, elle, prise suite à la tentative d’invasion américaine en 1812-1814. Construit en 1812, le blockhaus sert alors principalement de quartier d’habitation pour une petite garnison. On y retrouvait les quartiers habitables au premier étage et les installations dites militaire à l’étage supérieur. On y accède par une échelle en haut de laquelle peuvent prendre place quelques batteries de campagne. Un système de faussés complétaient le complexe du blockhaus.»

"The Coteau-du-Lac blockhouse is primarily intended to provide military control of the St. Lawrence River on the border of Upper and Lower Canada and close to the United States.
The decision to build the blockhouse is taken after the American invasion attempt in 1812-1814. Built in 1812, the blockhouse served mainly as residential area for a small garrison. There were the living quarters on the first floor and the so-called military facilities on the upper floor. It is accessed by a ladder at the top of which can take place some field batteries. A skewed system completed the blockhouse complex. "
