He was born on November 7, 1839 in Rural Valley, PA and died on February 19, 1916 in Porter Township, PA. He attained the rank of Brevet Major in the Union Army. His Medal of Honor information and citation is: BROWN, JEREMIAH Z.

• Date of issue: 22 June 1896
Citation: With 100 selected volunteers, assaulted and captured the works of the enemy, together with a number of officers and men.
