GNANN, CLAUDE ALLEN, 55, of the s/v Navy Blue passed away on Monday, July 11, 2005. He was born to Robert Gnann and Ernestine (Royal) Gnann on November 11, 1949 in Sanford, FL. In 1967 he graduated form Eustis High School. Claude then met and married Lyndia Lou Nicholas. From 1969 until 1973 Claude proudly served his country during the Vietnam conflict while in the United States Navy. Claude received the National Defense Ribbon, Air Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Vietnam Campaign Medal and a Vietnam Service Medal. He attended Seminole Community College and graduated with a Business degree in 1974. He began his career with the Lake County Sheriff's Office as a Corrections Supervisor in 1977 and held that position until 1981. In 1981 Claude became Sergeant and was assigned to supervise the Ranch and Grove Unit. He took over the position of Ranch and Grove Criminal Investigations Unit as Lieutenant in 1985. Claude was promoted to Captain in 1988 and was assigned to command Road Patrol. He again was promoted to Captain under a new administration in 1989 and was assigned to command the Support Services Division. He earned the title of "Deans Scholar" in 1993 from the Southern Police Institute where he attended an Administrative Officers Course. In 1997, having earned recognition for his skilled excellence and superior performance in law enforcement, Claude was elevated to Major and assigned to command the Operations Division. Prior to his retirement in 2004, Major Gnann served as the SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics) Commander for the Lake County Sheriff's Office. During his 27 year career with the Lake County Sheriff's Office, Major Gnann received over fifty Letters of Commendation and Appreciation, from the public, Federal, State and Local Law Enforcement agencies. Claude is survived by his wife, Lyndia Lou Gnann of the s/v Navy Blue; his mother, Ernestine Gnann and father, Robert Gnann of Cassia; sisters, Candy Noblin of Yalaha, FL, Linda Lundstrom of Pine Lakes, FL; and many dear friends. Calling hours are 4- 8PM on Tuesday, July 19, 2005 at the Allen J. Harden Funeral Home in Mount Dora, FL. A funeral service will be held at 11AM on Wednesday, July 20, 2005 at the First Baptist Church of Mount Dora with Reverend James Madison officiating.
