HAROLD PFEIFFER, 81, a former Mayor of LaPorte, esteemed civic and business leader, beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away on Dec. 9, 2003. Harold was preceded in death by his wife and partner, Mary Pfeiffer, his mother, Hilda Mosher Pfeiffer, his father, Harold John Pfeiffer, his sister, Virginia Gambrell, and by his son, Gerald Patrick Pfeiffer. He is survived by loving family members who will miss him dearly, including his children and their spouses, Cecile Pfeiffer Paschal and Charles Paschal, Martha Pfeiffer Riley and Kevin Riley, Helen Pfeiffer Bullock, Shawn Pfeiffer Knox and Wayne Knox, Lin and Jennifer Pfeiffer, and Phil and Diane Pfeiffer; 12 grandchildren, Shane and Keili Paschal, Charles Paschal, Jr., Charlie and Jessica Pfeiffer, Joseph and Jonathan Pfeiffer, Nicholas and Noah Riley, Shannon Pfeiffer Beckel and Craig Beckel, P. J. Pfeiffer, Jr. and Natalie Pfeiffer, Jessica and Christopher Bullock and Katy Knox. Four great-grandchildren, Luke and Jackson Beckel, Will Pfeiffer, and Logan Paschal; and sisters, May Bice and Louise Crowell. Harold Pfeiffer was born and lived his entire life of 81 years in La Porte, Texas. He was a leader always generous with his time and talents. Following service during World War II, Harold worked in the electrical contracting business of Pfeiffer Electric Company, where he became President at age 33 following the death of his father. He served as President of the area chapter of the National Electrical Contractors Association in the early 1960s. Thereafter, Harold founded the highly regarded electrical contracting firm of Pfeiffer & Son, Ltd. in La Porte, which is now headed by Harold's son Lin. Recognizing the need in LaPorte, Harold was one of the founders of Bayshore National Bank and served as its chairman for many years until his retirement at age 75. During these years, he also made the time to serve as city councilman of LaPorte for four years and then LaPorte's mayor for a period of 12 more years, until 1970, when he elected not to run for another term. The community of LaPorte and its citizens have benefited greatly from the leadership and service of Harold Philip Pfeiffer. Many a civic and church project, including most recently the Chapel at St. Mary's Catholic Church, were successfully completed under the watchful and volunteer guidance of Harold. Harold's greatest legacy is not, however, found in his business, civic or charitable accomplishments. Rather, it resides within his family, especially his children and grandchildren. From Harold, or "Pop" as many of them called him, they learned the lessons of leadership, commitment, hard work, integrity and faith. But most of all, they learned of love love of family which was exemplified by the love story which was Mary and Harold Pfeiffer; love of education which he has helped to guarantee for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and love of life, gardening and the world of hunting and fishing which he shared with his family. For those of you who truly know Harold, you will understand that he is now with our Lord and with his beloved Mary. He is making lists on his yellow tablet of things that need to be done. And he is working on projects that will undoubtedly be of benefit to all of us. While we will all miss him, we are without question better off because he passed our way. A rosary service will be held at 4:30 p.m., Friday, December 12, 2003 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 816 Park Avenue, LaPorte, TX. The funeral mass and service will be conducted the next day at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 13, 2003 also at St. Mary's Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church, 816 Park Ave., LaPorte, TX 77571 or to your favorite charity. Paul U.
