Durant was first settled in the early 1870's and named for Dixon Durant, a prominent Choctaw. When Oklahoma became a state in 1907, Durant became the county seat for Bryan County. Durant is the home of Southeastern Oklahoma State University, and is known as the Magnolia Capital of Oklahoma.
The Durant Post office is located at 1223 W. Main Street. It is a one-story tan brick building with a gabled metal roof. The area at the entrance has several large display windows. The counter is open Mon-Fri from 8:00-4:30 and on Saturday from 8:30-11:00. The lobby and post office boxes are available 24/7.
