On the east edge of the New York State Thruway Park & Ride, there are benches facing a wall of stones. Those stones were once part of the Erie Canal. In the centre of the stone wall, there is a plaque memorial to Department of Transportation (Region 2, the Mohawk Valley region) workers who lost their lives in service to the people of New York state. A few steps away, there is another plaque beside a planted tree which is dedicated to the memory of Civil Service Employees Association (Region 5, 20 counties in central New York) who have died in the line of duty.
Caution: treat this area as you would a visit to any space in the inner city.
