In 1923, the congregation of Stephenville’s First Baptist Church constructed this monumental Beaux Arts-style building of brick and limestone in the center of Block 21. The façade, or north elevation along W. Green St., features six classical columns of the Ionic order that support a projecting central pavilion topped by a pediment. The pavilion sits atop a broad staircase leading up from the sidewalk, giving the church an imposing appearance. The three-story church has a classical cornice with dentils, a flat roof, and corners accentuated by limestone quoins.
