Above the entrance of the house Kutschkergasse 44, the composer Franz Schubert is commemorated with a stone commemorative plaque. The inscription reads:

composed in the garden of this house
(then known as "the beer bag")
in July 1826 on a Sunday evening in the circle of some friends
in the middle of the noisy tavern the song
serenade
('Listen, listen, the lark' in ether blue. ')
In reverent remembrance of the immortal master
