Calera is a town of about 2300 residents. First settled in 1872, it was known as Cale Switch. This municipal water tank is a standpipe located directly behind the town hall/police department/fire department.

The tank is painted white and with a yellow circle painted on it. At the top is reads: Calera, Oklahoma, and at the bottom of the circle it shows the two previous names of the town: Cale Switch (from 1872 - 1889), and Sterrett (from 1889-1910). Within the circle are painted various items with historical interest to the town: The Oklahoma Shield, a locomotive, horses and wagon, an Indian and bows and arrows.
