The Gillespie Dam Highway Bridge was built in 1927 transformed the Yuma - Phoenix Highway into an all weather route, eliminating the crossing of the Gila River on the apron of the Gillespie Dam. It is a nine span through truss bridge. When completed it was the longest thru truss bridge in Arizona
