"These factors determine which plants can grow in each part
of the park. Near creeks, plentiful water supports large trees
including oak, bay, maple, and sycamores.
Oak and bay also grow on sheltered north-facing slopes and
groundwater-rich rock outcrops. South-facing slopes, in full
sunlight, support grasses that become dormant during the
dry season.
Deep?rooted, leathery?leafed shrubs - collectively called
?chaparral? - cling to the loose, steep faces of Las Trampas
ridge where access to water is minimal.
Please stay on the trails to keep erosion gullies from scarring
this unique landscape."
