This 1984 Sarajevo Olympic Torch is on display at the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa, Ontario. It was given to Major John Russell in 1993 by the Kolak-Loncarevic family to thank him for evacuating their daughter Ivanka from the besieged city.

Escaping the siege
This torch was used in the 1984 Sarajevo Olympics. In 1993, the Kolak-Loncarevic family presented it to Canadian Major John Russell to thank him for evacuating their daughter Ivanka from the besieged city.
Russell smuggled 298 people out of Sarajevo during his posting as military assistant to the Special Representative of the U.N. Secretary General.
