The Oklahoma Railway Museum is located at 3400 N.E. Grand. It is a fascinating place, with many railroad vehicles on display, a restored depot from Oakwood, OK and numerous community events and fun for the kids.
Driving there the other day (early July 2018) we discovered the appearance of a new restoration project of the museum. The LeFlore frame depot. It currently sits north of the road coming in to the museum, and this will be its final location. Currently this frame depot is raw wood, deteriorated, and missing its roof which was removed for the move. They will be placing the depot on a foundation mid July and begin the restoration process. Completion is hoped to be by end of 2018, or early Spring 2019. We will monitor this progress and update with photos as the restoration progresses.
The depot is approximately 12 by 18 ft., unpainted wood. It has been on a farm used for storage for many years. While here, make a point of wandering through the museum grounds. It will be well worth the visit.
UPDATE: 8/10/18 Work has begun. Roof rafters are being installed, and the interior has been cleaned out. We will fortunate enough to meet someone from the Railroad Museum on location who talked about the intricacies of restoring a depot like this. The Museum plans to use this building as its entrance ticket facility. Well keep following up as this depot is transformed into a beauty. Oklahoma Railway Museum
