Addington Station Antiques has constructed a large war memorial adjacent to their antiques store. Numerous sculptures and memorials are present, along with several historical story plaques along the walkway leading to the pavilion. This one reads:
Lightning Strikes Seven Times It's October 9, 1943, and Col. William Leverette of the 14th Fighter Group makes Ace on a single mission as one of six P-38's defending a British cruiser and several destroyers. In an exciting 15-minute air battle, the P-38's managed to down sixteen Stukas and one JU-88, with Leverette receiving credit for seven of the kills.
