The
Fannin County Quilt Barn Trail was established in 2012, and as of this posting, there are over a hundred of these squares to be found all across the county, with more to come. Most are made of wood, but there are a few metal ones, with dimensions of 4x4', 6x6', or 8x8'.
Honey Grove bills itself as "The Sweetest Town in Texas." This barn quilt is called "Bee Hive", and it and the donut shop (which isn't in a barn) draw their theme from the town's name, which was inspired by none other than David Crockett, who referenced the area's honey-filled trees in letters back to his home state of Tennessee. Crockett had planned to settle here, but it was not to be, as he was one of the martyrs at the Alamo in 1836. Featured on the quilt is a honey bee, two honey combs, and a hive.
The donut shop itself is open Monday through Saturday from 5 AM to 11 AM, and on Sunday from 6 AM to 11 AM. A menu is in the gallery, and they have a nice selection of donuts, breakfast goods, and drinks. They've even got a drive-thru. Service is great, too.
