History and Description of the Elkford Alliance Church:
"In 1971 the community of Elkford was established to provide housing for a new coal mine in the Fording River valley. A survey was done and 10 families came together to start a church in the community.
On August 1, 1971, the Elkford Bible Church was formed. Contact was made with various denominations for assistance in establishing a gospel witness in this new community and the church joined the Christian and Missionary Alliance. On April 4, 1982, the present church building was dedicated.
The congregation is small and averages about 25 to 35 on a Sunday morning. Being a mining community, many of the congregation are on shift work. The congregation comes from diverse backgrounds and range in age from newborns to retirees. There are presently 4 members on the elders’ board.
The church building seats 100. Along with 3 offices on the main floor, the basement has a large meeting area and a fireside room. We also have manse with three bedrooms on the main floor and two in the basement. Both the church and the manse are paid off and we are debt free."
