Just north of the city of Ponderay, this field is nearly a kilometre east of Highway 95.

We actually found this field while searching for a cache. The cache owner mentioned it in his description, stating that "The road leads to the RC Airplane Field". The field is at the end of an unnamed gravel road leading straight east from the highway. A sign on the highway states that the road also leads to the McGhee Sports Complex but we saw no sports facilities on the way in to the model aircraft field. There is, however, a fairly elaborate outhouse just west of the field.
The field isn't posted with a name, nor with the name of a flying club, only a couple of "No Trespassing" signs, which we brazenly ignored in order to get photos. The landing strip is basically dirt, with a fair amount of small vegetation growing on it. It is quite large, at least 500 feet long and 100 feet wide, its perimeter marked with small yellow flags. There is a small clubhouse/storage building to the north of the landing strip and seven work stands in a row in the pit area. On the clubhouse and on the south side of the strip are windsocks.
The field is in a very flat area on the bottom of the Pend Oreille Valley, surrounded by trees on all sides, the trees further away on some sides, with open grassed areas between. Though there is city to the south and agricultural area to the north and east, the field seems quite remote, this illusion created by the buffer of trees all around.
An extensive internet search has not revealed the identity of any model aircraft flying clubs in Ponderay, nor in Sandpoint, the larger city immediately south of Ponderay, though they must exist.
