This is a beautiful Gothic-style church, kept in good condition. On the front of the brick church is a nicely scripted sign, identifying the Church as Catholic, though the NSW Government Services Spatial Imaging site - SIX Maps NSW, gives it as Anglican! There is also a stamped brass plaque for the Centenary Celebration, of 2011, that reads:
Celebrating the Centenary
of
St Anthony's Catholic Church
Gungal
1911 - 2011
From the Gungal Community website:
"St Anthony’s Church is located on the Golden Highway at Gungal, which is mid-way between Denman and Merriwa [20 km either direction]. St Anthony’s sits within a beautiful rural setting that includes sandstone ridges and natural bushland.
"St Anthony’s is usually available for special occasions (such as weddings) and seats about 100 people. Christmas Mass is the most regular service with the church packed to capacity. The grounds are large, level and easily accessible.
"St Anthony’s belongs to the Parish of Denman and Parish Priest is Rev John Tobin. Thanks to Father John for his support" [ex-St Anthonys, Gungal]
* It is even 'so Country', that it has a functional Outhouse! *
