A set of four provincial panels that once adorned the façade of the old Bank of Montreal Building located at the northwest corner of King and Bay Streets in downtown Toronto. There are 12 of these panels, representing the 10 provinces and 2 territories. Originally, there were 11 commissioned by the bank in 1947/48. The Newfoundland panel was added after 1949, when it joined Confederation.
The panels were created by some of Canada's greatest sculptors and artist of the era. The four on display are:
Ontario and Quebec, by Frances Loring (1897-1968)
Nova Scotia, by Donald Stewart (1912-????)
Briish Columbia, by Jacobine Jones (1898-1976)
The panels, in a custom cement frame, are on the plinth of one of the columns that stood in front of the bank. The filial, is another preserved remnant, this one from the Victoria Park Gates in Niagara Falls.
