Driving south on Meridian Road (CR N2820) which runs north-south, just east of Highway 81 from Sunray, Oklahoma, this marker is located on the west side of the road, about halfway between Sunray and Comanche (north of Fairlawn Cemetery).

This metal historical marker was placed in 1958 by the Oklahoma Historical Society and the State Highway Commission. It commemorates an old military trail in this area. "Old Military Trails" appear in various areas of the West. This should not be confused with the well-known Old Military Trail in the Ouachita National Reserve near Talihina. This marker reads:

Old Military Trail
To adventures in the West
The famous Dragoon Expedition,
1834, Col. Henry Dodge in com-
mand, passed near here on the way
west to the Wichita Village on
North Fork of Red River. Near
here in 1852, Capt. R. B. Marcy,
5th Inf., met his wagon train for
his expedition west, in search of
the source of the Red River. East of here, 2 mi., was the Chisholm Trail.
