A USAAF Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress crashed at Cavehill on 1st June 1944, on a flight from Newfoundland to Nutt's Corner Airfield, (An American Airbase). Tragically 10 Airmen lost their lives. Crash site Located in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

From BBC TV News Channel "A memorial to 10 American airmen who died in a crash on Belfast's Cavehill during World War II has been unveiled.
The B-17 bomber went down in heavy fog 62 years ago after losing its bearings on the way to Nutt's Corner airport.
A plinth was unveiled in Belfast Zoo, near the crash site, on Thursday as a decommissioned B-17 flew over."

History of the tragedy of the Boeing B17 that crashed on Cave Hill on June 1, 1944
"It is believed that the pilot in poor visibility confused his first glimpse of Belfast Lough for Lough Neagh and flew straight into Cave Hill after his wireless operator took a reading from Langford Lodge which was also an American base on the Lough Neagh shore," says Ernie Cromie of the Ulster Aviation Society which supplied artefacts for the movie.
Today there is a memorial up there on the hillside by Bellevue Zoo near the scene of the crash where pieces of uniform and fragments of the B17 are still being uncovered."
