This fossil park is located in Sharonville, Ohio. It is named after the Trammel Family, who donated the 10 acres of land to the City of Sharonville.

This generous donation was made in the spirit that Sharonville would develop it into a place where schools and avid fossil hunters could come and explore for all time to come.

The fossils found here in sedimentary rocks, are going back to Ordovician (500 millions years). These rocks were formed by the lithification of sediments which were deposit in the Iapetus Ocean and contain the remains of extinct animals and plants that live in the ocean at that time. Indeed, around 450 millions years ago, this area was in the tropics, at the equator (0 degrees latitude). A warm and shallow sea, part of the Iapetus Ocean, covered the area. The sea was full of all kinds of marine organisms which once dead, were deposited at its bottom. Their carcasses and sediment accumulated, forming calcium deposits.

Trammel Fossil Park is unique because there are very few places to dig for fossils in the Cincinnati area that are safe and accessible. Since the plot of Trammel Fossil Park has never been disturbed, there is a plethora of fossils in very good condition.

Schools as far as New York have come to Trammel Fossil Park for exploration.
