La commission Patrimoine et Histoire de l’association franc-comtoise du Chemin de Compostelle a été créée pendant l’été 2001

Son objectif est de faire l’ inventaire des traces du culte jacquaire en Franche-Comté.

La méthode: en regardant autour d'eux, en consultant les historiens locaux et les ouvrages disponibles sur le patrimoine et sur les établissements religieux, est de recenser ce qu’il est possible de découvrir.

Leur première découverte fût que la Franche-Comté (ancien nom : comté de Bourgogne) avait donné naissance au pape Calixte II, personnage lié à l’histoire du pèlerinage. En effet, celui-ci né dit-on aux environs de l’an 1060 à Quingey, était l’un des fils du comte de Bourgogne. Avant son élection en 1119 il se nommait Guy de Vienne. Sa puissante famille, alliée au roi d’Espagne, a contribué à entraîner la chevalerie bourguignonne dans la lutte contre les Maures qui occupaient le sud de la péninsule.

Le Codex Calixtinus rédigé entre 1140 et 1180, pour fonder et justifier le pèlerinage à Santiago a été mis sous sa dédicace. Les rédacteurs l’ont présenté avec une lettre de Calixte II comme préface… alors qu’il était mort depuis 1124.

L'association a pour but de promouvoir le chemin de Compostelle.(faire connaître, aider, conseiller, développer). Elle fonde son origine sur l'adhésion au mouvement initié par le Conseil de l'Europe en 1987 dans son programme "Chemin de St Jacques : Itinéraires culturelles européens" dont les valeurs essentielles sont tolérance, respect d'autrui, liberté et solidarité :

- faire connaître, aider, conseiller, faciliter la préparation et le bon déroulement du voyage sur le chemin de Saint-Jacques de Compostelle ;

- continuer en Franche-Comté, le traçage du Chemin de Saint-Jacques, en cohérence avec les itinéraires culturels européens ;

- constituer l'inventaire du patrimoine jacquaire dans la région ;

- établir et encourager le contact avec tous les chercheurs travaillant dans ce domaine ;

- nouer et entretenir des liens avec les associations françaises et étrangères poursuivant les mêmes buts.

The Heritage and History Commission of the Franc-Comtoise Association of the Way of St. James was created during the summer of 2001
 
Its objective is to make an inventory of traces of the jacquaire cult in Franche-Comté.
 
The method: looking around them, consulting local historians and available books on heritage and religious institutions, is to identify what is possible to discover.
 
Their first discovery was that the Franche-Comté (former name: County of Burgundy) had given birth to Pope Calixte II, a character related to the history of the pilgrimage. Indeed, it is said that around the year 1060 in Quingey, was one of the son of the Earl of Burgundy. Before his election in 1119 he was named Guy of Vienna. His powerful family, allied with the king of Spain, helped to lead the Burgundian chivalry in the fight against the Moors who occupied the south of the peninsula.
 
The Codex Calixtinus written between 1140 and 1180, to found and justify the pilgrimage to Santiago was put under its dedication. The editors presented it with a letter from Calixte II as preface ... while he had been dead since 1124.

The aim of the association is to promote the Camino de Santiago (publicize, help, advise, develop). It is based on the accession to the movement initiated by the Council of Europe in 1987 in its program "The Way of St James: European Cultural Routes" whose essential values ??are tolerance, respect for others, freedom and solidarity:
 
- to make known, to help, to advise, to facilitate the preparation and the good progress of the journey on the road to Saint Jacques de Compostela;
 
- continue in Franche-Comté, the tracing of the Chemin de Saint-Jacques, consistent with the European cultural routes;
 
- constitute the inventory of the jacquaire heritage in the region;
 
- establish and encourage contact with all researchers working in this field;
 
- establish and maintain links with French and foreign associations pursuing the same goals.
