Duncan is a town of about 24,000 residents. It was established in 1892 with the arrival of the railroad. It became the County Seat of Stephens County with Statehood in 1907. Much of Duncan's economy from the beginning, has revolved around the oil industry. It is the home of Halliburton Industries, one of the world's largest oil suppliers and service companies.

This Federal building was constructed between 1933 and 1934 under a Federal program. This is a two-story building with a basement, constructed of large stone blocks in two tones. The building faces north and has a wide, recessed entry porch. Four stone block columns support this porch. There are two entrances, consisting of double glass doors with sidelights and transom. At the center the wall is engraved "Federal Building".

Windows, except those in the entrance bays are tall, narrow two-story units with panes on each floor. The second floor windows above the entrances are segmented fixed pane units. Above the entrances the stone is engraved "UNITED STATES POST OFFICE".
