This marker is a little tricky to find. Take Highway 277 south out of Chickasha, then go east on Highway 19 for two miles to Quail Road. Then, south on Quail about 1/8 mile. Marker is on your right. This is a rural residential area. The marker is located behind a pipe rail fence. This is a granite marker mounted on top of a short brick pedestal. It reads:

FRED
Indian Territory
Trading post established
by Col. Frank Fred
in 1870s.
Crossroads of Chisolm (sic) Trail
and the Fort Cobb Stage Road
Post office established
in 1884
Methodist Church established
in 1889

[Excerpt from OKGenWeb] "FRED: Dave and Scott COOK had the post office at Fred, and they ran a general merchandise store. Mail was delivered at Fred about once a week, being carried in a stage coach or hack. From Fred the stage coach went to Anadarko, and then back on its way to Pauls Valley and Caddo. Source: Indian Pioneer Papers, Bunk Moncrief interview, October 13, 1937, at Chickasha, Grady Co., Oklahoma."
