As this is an active school building, the posted coordinates are for safe parking at a convenience store across the street.
Arsenal Junior High School, together with Arsenal Park, occupy the former location of the Allegheny Arsenal, an important military depot in the 1800's. After it closed, the land was sold to the City of Pittsburgh. The school opened in 1932, amidst the Great Depression. Yet, seemingly no expense was spared in making this a truly distinctive school building. The exterior uses Indiana limestone and the interior features Tennessee marble.
