The plaque says, "The saguaro (Carnegiea gigantea) is an arborescent cactus species in the monotypic genus Carnegiea, which can grow to be over 70 feet tall. It is native to the Sonoran Desert in Arizona. The saguaro blossom is the state wildflower of Arizona.

In commemoration of Arizona's 100 years of statehood. Arizona is the 48th state and last of the contiguous states to be admitted to the Union."
