The Monroe Rural Fire Protection District is overseen by members of the community elected to the Board of Directors. Every month they hold a public meeting with Chief Rick Smith and members of the public at the District's main station in downtown Monroe.
The Chief oversees the volunteer firefighters and ensures the department is ran within the standard operating guidelines.
Recruitment of new volunteers generally begins around June or July, but any members of the public interested in joining the fire department can fill out an application and turn it in to the Chief at the main fire station anytime. We also have a Junior Firefighter program for teenagers 16 and up that are interested in learning about firefighting and emergency medicine.
