[FR] Le 4 juillet 1861, Napoléon III arrive à Vichy pour sa première cure. Le dimanche 7, il se rend à la messe dans la minuscule église Saint-Blaise où le curé Louis Dupeyrat lui réclame « un temple digne de Dieu ». Quelques semaines plus tard, un décret impérial daté du 27 juillet 1861 prévoit la construction d'une nouvelle église, d'un presbytère et d'un nouvel hôtel de ville.
Saint-Louis a été choisi car Louis est le prénom de l'empereur, de son père, Louis Bonaparte et de son fils, le prince impérial Louis-Napoléon Bonaparte.
Lors de son dernier séjour à Vichy en 1866, l'Empereur découvre l'église en assistant aux messes du 29 juillet avec de nombreux dignitaires et du 5 août avec le prince impérial.
[EN] On July 4, 1861, Napoléon III arrived in Vichy for his first course of treatment. On Sunday, the 7th, he attended Mass in the minuscule Saint-Blaise church where the vicar Louis Dupeyrat begged for a « temple worthy of God ». A few weeks later, an imperial decree dated July 27 1861 provided for the construction of a new church.
The name Saint-Louis was chosen because Louis was the name of the emperor, his father, Louis Bonaparte and his son, the imperial prince Louis-Napoléon Bonaparte.
During his last visit to Vichy in 1866, the emperor discovered the church when he attended Mass on July 29 along with numerous dignitaries and on August 5 with the imperial prince.
