[FR] Quatre cariatides (les quatre saisons) sculptées par Carrier-Belleuse scandent la façade du premier casino construit à Vichy.
La notoriété de Vichy est telle qu’en 1900, l’architecte Charles Lecœur est chargé d’agrandir le bâtiment vers l’ouest : le grand théâtre Art Nouveau en est l’aboutissement avec ses 1 486 places. A travers cette salle, Vichy devient – de juin à septembre – la capitale d’été de la musique en France et reçoit en représentation tous les plus grands noms de la scène internationale. Dès la création du nouveau théâtre, le reste de l’édifice est consacré aux jeux de hasard. Aujourd’hui l’ensemble forme le Palais des congrès – Opéra.
[EN] Four caryatids (the four seasons) sculpted by Carrier-Belleuse punctuate the facade of the first casino built in Vichy.
The notoriety of Vichy is such that in 1900, the architect Charles Lecoeur is responsible for expanding the building to the west: the great Art Nouveau theater is the result with 1486 seats. Through this room, Vichy becomes - June to September - the summer capital of music in France and receives representing all the biggest names in the international scene. Since the creation of the new theater, the rest of the building is devoted to gambling. Today together form the convention center - Opera.
