The bronze Foundation Plaque has a heavy brown, and partly green patina to it, and it is on the cream/orange brickwork at the plate glass door entrance to the Gallery and Museum on the northern side. The plaque reads:
MANLY MUSEUM
This Foundation Plaque was placed by
Alderman Joan THORBURN
Mayor of Manly
27th March 1982
This is a 'utilitarian' design, of light orange (almost cream coloured) bricks, with a simple hip roof, with terracotta tiles. Moderately large floor to ceiling plate glass windows are used to proved natural lighting for what is mostly now an Art Gallery. It overlooks Manly Wharf and Manly Waterworks and Manly Sea Life Sanctuary.
"Manly Art Gallery and Museum (MAG&M) was the first metropolitan-based regional gallery in New South Wales.
"MAG&M has a fine collection of early modern paintings by artists such as Antonio Dattilo-Rubbo, Tom Roberts and Grace Cossington-Smith; one of the finest collections of studio ceramics in Australia; and a museum which features a range of exhibits focused on local history and culture." Manly Museum
This building of 1982 replaces the earlier MAG&M which had been on or near this site from 1930. [ex-Wikipedia: MAG&M
