EN Located between Vernègues and his hamlet Cazan the construction of this small rural chapel, of very simple architectural design, dates back to the 12th century: it consists of a semi-circular choir of 2 bays. The current appearance of the building is the result of many changes over the centuries not for the sake of aesthetic improvement, but to cope with the ever-increasing influx of pilgrims.

From the Middle Ages, Saint Symphorien, a young Christian martyr, is venerated throughout Provence, especially in Vernègues where the crippled and crippled invoke as healer (and until the revolution) many ex-voto and crutches testify. In 1644 Charles de Valois, Duke of Angoulême comes to make novena, it begins either August 11 or August 22 feast day of the saint. The pilgrimage takes place on August 21 according to a very precise and immutable ceremony. The Archbishop of Arles, our coseigneur has for this occasion the jurisdiction and the right of auctions.

Interrupted during the revolution, the pilgrimage remains, on August 21 around 17:00, the statue of the saint installed in his canopy is led in procession from the church of Our Lady of Lourdes to his chapel and the saint is prayed for rain. The 2nd Sunday of October the saint is then reassembled at the church of Vernègues.
