alipes, from the Latin for "Wing-footed", hence swift.

Local artist team, Jean Halstead and Svetlana Swinimer, created Alipes, an abstract sculpture with emblematic symbols of wings, staff, and coiled serpent, found in the crest of the Ottawa Paramedic Service. The wings consisting of two steel plates welded together, form a folded map of Ottawa, referencing the reach and impact of Ottawa Paramedics. The fold of the map is made to the same angle as the "prow" of the Headquarters building, reiterating the spirit and readiness and motion characteristic of the paramedic service.
