Nichols Park was developed between 1938 and 1941 by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) and the National Park Service (NPS). The CCC constructed several stone buildings, including a bathhouse, two large pavilions, restrooms, and picnic tables, as well as culverts, water faucets and fire pits in the park.

The park has a wide variety of activities, including a sand beach, baseball and softball fields, a bike trail, fishing, an off-road park, picnic areas, playground, trails, a sand volleyball court, and a rodeo arena. A large man-made Lake Nichols provides swimming and fishing activities. The park is also the scene of many community events. A road runs around the perimeter of the park, past the bathhouse, two rock pavilions, and the other venues. During the Spring of 2018, a volunteer committee has begun a restoration project, repairing the stone buildings, adding sand to the beach and volleyball court, and repairing picnic tables, etc. This park offers something for everyone, and its history and beauty is worth your visit.
