The original architects were Goold and Hilling, and responsible for the Gothic Revival, cruciform plan Church being opened in April 1858. It is built of dressed sandstone, with exposed wooden rafters, and it has a tall square sandstone tower on the western end, with a pinnacled Spire added later (1873) from designs from Edmund Blacket.
