This large sandstone Gothic-styled Anglican Church almost completely stretches between Darlinghurst Road and Victoria Street.

Officially called the 'Church of St John the Evangelist', the parish was founded in 1849. With this Church opened in April 1858, and the Transepts and Spire added in 1871 from the design of Edmund Blacket. [ex-Wikipedia: (visit link) ; and 'Australian Heritage Database': 1982, (visit link) ]

The Church has three Services on Sundays: 9.30am for a Family Friendly experience; 11am for Communion and liturgy, and 6pm for a Contemporary Service. (visit link)

The Church is generally open Monday to Saturday from 10am to 2pm.
